Does God speak through dreams?
The answer is yes! There are many instances in the bible where God used dreams to get someone’s attention. In the book of Genesis God gave a dream to Joseph that his whole family would bow down before him. God gave dreams to Jacob, the Pharaoh of Egypt, Solomon, and Joseph, husband of Mary and others. It’s interesting to note here that there were people of the bible who God gave dreams to that were very ordinary people. The baker and butler during the time of the book of Genesis are good examples.
Can anyone have a dream from God?
God is no respecter of person and can and does give dreams to anyone He chooses. You don’t have to be a Christian to get a dream from God. I know a nonbeliever who was married to a Christian and had a dream that she woke up one morning and found that her husband was gone and the only thing left was his sleeping clothes. This sounds like she experienced the catching away of the church while everyone, including her, were left behind. If you don’t know what this means watch the movie series ‘Left Behind’.
Why does God use dreams to speak to people?
God uses dreams to encourage, to correct and to give direction. I once prayed that God would give me direction and wisdom on whether or not I should take a different position at work. My answer came in a dream one night. I dreamed that I was fishing and hooked something that fought very hard and when I finally brought it up to the bank I was standing on I found that it was a large wrench. Now I do like to fish and God had showed me that if I took this position I would be spending a lot more time at work and a lot less time fishing. I found this to be very good advice and I turned the position down.
How do I know if a dream is from God?
I have learned that when I get a dream that could be from God I write it down and date it. This could prove very useful in the future as God can time future events to coincide with your dream. An example I give is when I had the dream about me future wife. I had documented the dream and dated it. The night I proposed to Joni I went home and found where I had written down the dream. I then called and was reading it to her when it dawned on me that the dream was dated March 27th, 2004 and the night I proposed to her was March 27th, 2007. Three years to the day. Talk about a confirmation. We have been married 18 years now and I still tell her she is the ‘woman of my dreams’. Most dreams I get from God are not expected. They come out of nowhere. Most dreams that I have are not in color but I have had two dreams that had written words that were written in neon green. Kind of like the neon green signs you see at a Holiday Inn hotel. I have also noticed that there are dialogues between people in some dreams. If you read about dreams found in the bible you will see that too. I tell all of you that I try to look at dreams from a Christian perspective. The bible is always your standard to judge dreams by. I am always suspicious of multiple dreams given close together. Remember, the devil tries to steal the word from your heart. The first dream is usually the one to hang on to.
What about dream time lines?
I wish I had the answer to this but it varies from dream to dream. I’ve had dreams that came to pass the same day I’ve had them and a couple that I have been waiting for years for them to come to pass. Do I doubt the validity of these unfulfilled dreams? Not really. I do think about them when I am going through troubled times. Call them promises if you will. They keep me going.
Can the devil give dreams?
I will tell you this much if you’ve ever had a carnal dream that tried to draw you to sin know that it wasn’t from God. When I get a dream the day after I feel God has given me something I am very skeptical. Remember, the devil’s purpose is to kill, steal and destroy. God will never ask you to commit sin. If you get a dream and you feel something is just not right write it down and put it on a shelf. God will not tell you to divorce your wife and marry someone else.
I get dreams sometimes that I call ‘Pizza dreams’. If I eat to much or am stressed out about something these dreams can occur. I don’t take drugs or drink alcohol but before I was saved I did. It will cause the same thing. Prescription medications are something else that will cause these kinds of dreams. These types of dreams are usually vague and without substance. Dreams from God are very rare in my life and are not an everyday occurrence. What you see on this website comes from 25 years of following after Jesus. Ask Jesus to give you a dream. Then ask Him to save you and become Lord of your life. You will be so glad you did.
Why do you believe that Jesus is coming soon?
This event is referred to as “The Day of the Lord” in the bible and Jesus told the disciples to watch, for no one knows the day or the hour. I had the dream about the second coming when I had little biblical understanding. I was saved at the time but did not know much about the term ‘second coming’. As the years have passed I have become more convinced that His return is near. About three years ago I had a second dream that had a great sign in the sky. This dream had a dialogue and referred to Acts 2:17-21 which talks about the second coming of Christ and what would happen beforehand. While I know that the catching away or rapture will take place before the “Day of the Lord” I do feel that we will see some of the storm clouds preceding this great event.
What about dream interpretations?
The best advice I can give about dream interpretations is; If it’s from God He will give you the interpretation Himself. Pray for God to reveal the truth about your dream. This may take time. I once had a dream that showed four ‘New Moons’. I suspected they were seasons in my life but I couldn’t say for sure. One day, years later I was reading Psalm 104:19 and it said that “He appointed the moon for seasons” so I finally had my confirmation. More times than not God uses a scripture to give you a dream interpretation though not always. In the bible most dreams that needed to be interpreted by someone other than the person who had the dream were non-believers. The Pharaoh of Egypt found in Genesis needed his dream interpreted.
God does use symbols that aren’t always easy to understand. I don’t know why and I guess you have to ask Him why when you see Him face to face. I know this much. He’s been in the business of giving dreams a long time and is not going to change now for me or anyone else.
If the dream is very vivid so you will not forget it anytime soon it probably means it will be some time before you see it come to pass. Joseph’s dream about everyone bowing down to him is an example of this. Joseph suffered much anguish before that dream was fulfilled. I bet he was comforted when meditating on this dream and it had to keep him going when everything seemed lost. He focused on the promise made by God.
If you are troubled by a dream and don’t know if it’s from God or not, document and date it then put it on a shelf and wait on God. If you are a non-believer you probably will need help. It could be that God is knocking on the door of your heart. Remember, anyone can have a dream. Not just Christians.
There are many websites out there who claim they can interpret dreams. All you have to do is give them a credit card number. That should be your first sign that something is wrong. These sites are unscrupulous and are only after your money. As far as dream interpretations, if you think it’s from God doesn’t it make sense to go to the source? Ask God to help you. I once had a college professor tell about a re-occurring dream he had that someone was knocking on his front door. As he talked about it I could tell he was perplexed. It was so real he always checked his front door to see if anyone was there and never found anyone or anything. He had called the police and they never found anything wrong. The Holy Spirit reminded me of a scripture in the book of Revelation where Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and him with me.” Revelation 3:20 After class I approached him, as he was an older gentlemen, and was eventually able to lead him to Jesus. When I asked about him the next semester I was told that he had died.
“Is Jesus knocking on the door of your heart? There is no better day than today than to get down on your knees and ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life. Ask Jesus to save you, come into your heart and to forgive you of all your sins. You will never regret it. Send me an email at [firstname.lastname@example.org] so I can rejoice with you! I promise, I won’t ask you for money.
