The first thing you need to know is that it is not based on good deeds versus bad. I used to think that I would be judged on a bell curve like when we took tests in school. There were always people who did worse than I did. The problem was that I wasn’t sure how good I had to be.
The truth is that none is going to heaven based on works. The bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9 that you are saved by grace through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God no of works, lest anyone should boast. In other words you are not going to boast to God about all your good deeds. It is so simple yet it is so hard for some people to understand.
What is keeping you out of heaven is sin. God does not tolerate any kind of sin. The bible says that we have All sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We have all broken God’s commandments. Think about it. Have you ever stole something? Even taking change out of your parents drawers constitutes sin. Ever had sex outside of marriage? It’s called fornication and is sin. The Bible also says that if you break one law you are guilty of breaking them all. The law was given to show us that we are sinners. (Romans 3:20)
Can’t I just ask God to forgive me?
Forgiveness comes only through accepting Jesus Christ as Lord. Here is an analogy that I use. Lets say I am playing with the neighbor kid and we get into trouble playing in the ditches. We are all wet and I decide to go the neighbor’s house instead of my own. We both knock and the neighbor’s dad opens the door and stares us both down. He tells his son to come inside and then looks at me and tells me to go to my own home and that he doesn’t know me.
First step to salvation.
Admit you’re a sinner.
Second: Ask Jesus to save you. The bible says that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.
You see, Jesus paid a debt we could not pay. He died for all our sins and went to hell and God raised Him up on the third day. Lastly Repent (turn away) from your sins. Does this mean that you won’t ever sin again? No, but it should bother you when you do sin. All of us have our moments but as Christians we can repent and be forgiven.
Last Thing: Tell someone what you have done and find a bible believing church and GO! I would love to get an email from you. My email address is: Redfishman26 @outlook.com
