In the book of Hebrews 4:12 it says; For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The bible is more than just a book of ‘how to’.  It is a book inspired by the Holy Spirit that will change you!

Romans 12:1-2 reads; 1.  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2. And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Early in my walk with Jesus I spent of lot of time in the book of Psalms.  When I ran across Psalm 91 I realized that this was special.  I purposed in my heart to memorize this Psalm and did so one verse at a time.  The key for me to memorizing scripture is to write or print down a verse or two, and carry it with me.  Through course of my day I would pull these scriptures out of my pocket and meditate on them.  I would say them out loud and by the end of the day I usually could remember them.  The next day I would repeat this until I finally got the whole Psalm memorized.  Now, I print a copy and put it on my bathroom mirror.  After that I began to confess Psalm 91 every day on my way to work.  It reads like this;

Psalm 91

  1. He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
  2. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and m fortress: My God, in Him I will trust.”
  3. Surely he shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.
  4. He shall cover you with His feathers and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
  5. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day.
  6. Nor the pestilence that walks in the darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
  7. A thousand my fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.
  8. Only with your eyes shall you look and see the reward of the wicked.
  9. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the most High, your dwelling place,
  10. No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;
  11. For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.
  12. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
  13. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, The young lion and the serpent you shall trample under foot.
  14. “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known my name.
  15. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.
  16. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”

One Sunday afternoon I was taking a nap and as I was waking up I heard these words coming out of my mouth; “Pray Psalm 91” In all my years after becoming a Christian this has only happened a few times.  But when it does, I pay attention.  Romans 10:17 says; So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.  The term ‘word’, in this verse, of the original writings in Greek is known as ‘Rhema’ and is defined as an utterance or what Christians refer to as revelation knowledge.  When God gives you a ‘Rhema’ you need to listen, meditate, and to the best of your ability, follow His command.

I realized for the first time that I, needed not to just confess Psalm 91, but to incorporate it into a prayer.  It goes like this;

     I who dwell in the shelter of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him I will trust.”  Surely He will deliver me from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.  He shall cover me with His feathers and under His wings I will find refuge; His truth shall be my shield and buckler.  I will not be afraid of the terror by night Nor the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in the darkness, nor the destruction that lays waste at noonday.  A thousand may fall at my side, and ten thousand at my right hand: But it shall not come near me.  Only with my eyes shall I look, and see the reward of the wicked.  Because I have made the Lord who is my refuge, even the most High my dwelling place, no evil shall befall me, Nor shall any plague come near my dwelling: For He shall give His angels charge over me and keep me in all my ways.  In their hands they shall bear me up.  Lest I dash my foot against a stone.  I shall tread upon the lion and the cobra.  The young lion and the serpent I shall trample underfoot.  Because I have set my love upon Him, He will deliver me.  He will set me on high because I have known His name.  I will call upon Him and He will answer me: He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me and honor me.  With long life He will satisfy me and show me His salvation.

    At first I printed out this prayer and read it every morning before I went to work and over time I finally memorized it and still, after 25 years, pray this psalm on my way to work.  So you might ask; “Has anything happened that showed how God’s angels were protecting my family and I?”  I don’t keep a log but there were times that God’s angels have stepped in and protected us.  Recently my wife Joni was driving and had stopped at a light. She was waiting for the light to change to cross a highway as she was headed home from work.  Just as the light changed green for her, a bug of some kind flew in front of her face, which distracted her for a brief second, as she swatted at it.  As she turned her eyes back to the road she saw a car blow right through the light that would have hit her broadside had it not been for the distraction at that moment in time.  Coincidence?  I don’t think so.  While my family and I have had our fair share of fender benders through the years, I believe that God has spared us from more than one life changing event like this.

As a man who believes that the Second Coming of Jesus is at hand, I would say to you that we are heading into some perilous times.  As Christians we all need the divine protection of God’s angels.  Start a confession of Ps 91 and let it sink into your spirit. Psalm 91 will empower you and give you that protection for not just you, but for your family as well.  Print out a copy of the prayer and put it on your bathroom mirror.  Read it out loud every morning when get up or whenever is best for you.  Be blessed!

If you have never asked Jesus to be the Lord of your life ask Him to do it now.  Get on your knees and ask Jesus to come into your heart and be the Lord of your life.  He will forgive you of all your sins and put them as far as the east is from the west.  Then tell somebody you have made Jesus, Lord of your life.  You will be so glad you did.
