CONFUSED?

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 14:33

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

As we watch our news today it seems like it has one central message, and that message is confusion. On the screen we see a world that is out of control: an earthquake here, a robbery there, a murder, a car wreck, a bank robbery etc. Then we hear of our president, and cannot really discern what the facts are. Our international friends tell us that our country is a mess. Confused? Boy I am without God’s perspective! That is why I go to the Good News to sort it all out. The good news is found in the pages of the Word of God. Our media often strikes fear and confusion into the hearts and minds of its viewers. Today realize that this confusion is not coming from God. If it is not coming from God then it is coming from Satan himself. He is using spiritual wickedness in high places to bring about this confusion. Our media is a big business that strives on sensationalism. If you ever need to be depressed just watch the news without seeing it from God’s perspective. I would like us to remember two things about all of this confusion. One is that God is still on the throne and is in control of everything and everyone. Circumstances may look bleak and things may look bad on the news, but rest assured, God is working out everything for His purpose. The other thing I would like us to remember is our divine responsibility. Our responsibility is to pray. The largest church in the world is the Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea. The church has 800,000 members, and at 4 am each morning 300,000 people wake up to pray for the welfare of Korea. The Apostle Paul said, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;” (1 Timothy 2:1-3). You might not like your president or even your boss, but your responsibility is to pray for them. So as you watch the news do not be discouraged. Remember that God is in control. Let the news be your prayer list for those who are in need. Confused? Don’t be! Get God’s perspective from the Word, and get insight from the Holy Spirit as you pray.

SUGGESTED PRAYER:

Lord,

Please open my eyes to the truth of what is going on in our world. Help me be a person of prayer. Help me to pray for those in authority. Help me not to have fear about what is happening in this world. Help me see that You are in control of this world and my life. Thank You Lord for Your truth found in Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

FAITH PLEASES GOD

TEXT: HEBREWS 11:2

For by it(faith) the elders obtained a good report.

How do we please God? God owns everything and certainly does not need our money: “The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”(Psalm 24:1). This world has tried to appease God and to please Him through various ways throughout the centuries. There is one sure way to please God and that is to walk by faith. God is always pleased when we exercise our faith in Him. Faith is taking God at His word. So when God speaks to you and your response is a response of faith He is well pleased. Hebrews chapter 11 gives several illustrations of men and women of faith from the Old Testament. These people are called “elders” in this verse, and they refer to outstanding people of faith in the Old Testament. Many of the peoples’ stories are recorded in the Book of Genesis. If we can believe Genesis 1:1 we should not have any trouble believing the rest of the Scriptures. Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” If we can believe that He is the Creator we can believe that He is our Savior and our Sovereign God who is in control of every aspect of our lives. Faith controlled the thoughts and actions of the outstanding people of the Old Testament. They believed in God and took Him at His word. Abraham believed in God and it was counted to him for righteousness. As a result, God was pleased with them. God could mold, form, and use these people because they would respond in a positive way to His leading. Furthermore, they were an example to the people of their day. Fellow Jews, family, friends, and even foes learned that they could trust God. They are also and example for us in our day. We too can please God by walking by faith. Even though we are saved we are not saved from suffering. Every christian will suffer before entering the portals of glory. We are also not saved from sorrow. There will be much weeping before this life is over. Weeping may endure for a night but joy will come in the morning when we see Jesus. We are also not saved from shame. We must bear our cross and lift up the banner of the cross high so this lost world can see our Savior. These Old Testament characters suffered, were filled with sorrow and shame but they pleased God. We too can please God through faith. Whatever God is calling you to do just take Him at His word and respond in faith. Then put feet to your faith and do whatever it is that He is asking you to do. God’s power is what saves a person, but it is our feet that must bring the good news to them.

SUGGESTED PRAYER:

Lord,

It seems like I do not have the faith described in Hebrews. However, I want to please you. I want to be faithful to Your calling on my life. Lord, by faith, I receive Your will for my life. Now Lord give me the courage to step out by faith and do it. In Jesus Name, Amen.
